چکیده

Cardiac tumors are exceedingly rare (0.001-0.03% in most autopsy series). They can be present anywhere within the heart and can be attached to any surface or be embedded in the myocardium or pericardial space. Signs and symptoms are nonspecific and highly variable related to the localization, size and composition of the cardiac mass. Echocardiography, typically performed for another indication, may be the first imaging modality alerting the clinician to the presence of a cardiac mass. Although echocardiography cannot give the histopathology, certain imaging features and adjunctive tools such as contrast imaging may aid in the differential diagnosis as do the adjunctive clinical data and the following principles: (1) thrombus or vegetations are the most likely etiology, (2) cardiac tumors are mostly secondary and (3) primary cardiac tumors are mostly benign. Although the finding of a cardiac mass on echocardiography may generate confusion, a stepwise approach may serve well practically. Herein, we will review such an approach and the role of echocardiography in the assessment of cardiac masses.

بررسی ارزش تشخیصی MRI در مقایسه با اکوکاردیوگرافی ترانس توراسیک در تعیین خصوصیات توده های قلبی

Background: Cardiac tumors are usually asymptomatic diseases. Considering the anatomic position of the heart, it is necessary to identify their nature before every aggressive intervention. The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic performance of MRI and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) assessment of cardiac masses. Methods: In a cross-sectional survey from April 2010 to March 2013...

Metastatic carcinoid tumor to the heart: echocardiographic-pathologic study of 11 patients.

OBJECTIVE We sought to investigate the clinical and echocardiographic (echo) characteristics of metastatic carcinoid tumor in the heart. BACKGROUND Right-sided valvular dysfunction is the hallmark of carcinoid heart disease. Cardiac metastases are uncommon in carcinoid syndrome. Features of patients with metastatic carcinoid tumor involving the heart (MCH) have not been well described. METH...

The Use of Echocardiography in the Critically Ill; The Role of FADE (Fast Assessment Diagnostic Echocardiography) Training

Echocardiography (echo) is a powerful technique that permits direct visualization and assessment of all the cardiac structures and assessment of the patients' haemodynamic status at the bedside. Echo allows detection of valvular disease, evaluation of ventricular function and the pericardium, detection of intracardiac/intrapulmonary shunts, and can be used to calculate flows and relative pressu...

نقش متابولیتها در تشخیص توده های مغزی با استفاده از طیف سنجی تشدید مغناطیس هسته ای و مقایسه غلظت آنها در بیماران تومورال با افراد سالم

Background and Aim: Brain tumors have remained as a significant cause of morbidity and mortality and are often refractory to treatment. The grading of brain tumor has an important implication in clinical management. Currently, magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is an important dimension in evaluating metabolites and grading brain tumors. The aim of this study is to evaluate metabolites in br...

Fast Velocity Mapping of Myocardial Motion with k-Space Segmented Black Blood Echo Planar and Gradient Echo Imaging

Introduction: Cine or multi-phase cardiac imaging offers a variety of applications such as assessment of global cardiac function, measurement of the heart wall motion with phase contrast [1] or tagging techniques [2] as well as determination of flow inside the ventricular system. Here, we present two fast imaging methods for assessment of myocardial motion: Interleaved Echo Planar Imaging (EPI)...
